thanks seniors buat open house. :) that was my lunch and also my dinner. i'm glad i got to eat loads of stuff. XD. big two thumbs up!!

on a completely separate note, i think that there is a part of me that wants to change, but a part of me that is trying to resist this change. It's very, hard to describe.

i should prepare myself for long sleepless nights. *sigh.

Digital Memories

After my long self-imposed blogging hiatus, (mostly due to the increased workload this semester compared to my previous 2 semesters) I suddenly felt the sudden urge to post something about my current hobby, or better yet, my current obsession - photography.

Why I like it: Well this was a shot I took while waiting for my food to be served at PF Changs. I decided to do some experimenting with manual mode, and took a photo of the lamp right above our table. Well let's just say this shot served as an eye opener to me on the world of manual dslr setting, and since then I've been shooting 90% in manual mode, with the occasional stop over in Aperture mode.

The road to saving*coughstealingcough* money


Yo folks.

I've been blessed with an abundance of free time recently - fresh off summer classes and about to proceed into the Fall semester. So, naturally, I found a perfect way to kill time:

Oh yes, that's right. I never mentioned it before, but I am proud to announce that I am now the ecstatic owner of a Canon Rebel T1i DSLR and officially a camera geek. :-B.

After looking around on the internet for a place that I can tap into for DSLR related information, I discovered this amazing website. (note: proceed with caution since some of the forum members are capable of posting pictures so beautiful, I guarantee it'll blow your brains away) :


Needless to say, I'm awestruck, brainless, salivating like hell and hooked. However, after looking at the umpteenth picture, I started to think, "If they can blow my brains away, why can't I do the same?". Therefore, I cleverly thought of several ingenious steps which will hopefully propel me to the coveted status of "brain-blower" (not necessarily meant to be done in order):

1. Improve my technique using the gear I currently have, which ain't much
. Smoke whatever they were smoking when they took them psychadelic images.
2. Read up on as much photography books/magazines/journals as possible.

Of Queues and Ethics

Something happened today which sort of irritated me to an extent, that I felt compelled to post it in this blog.

Let's start with a definition of a word.

No, it's not one of those big, scary, words that cause you to shriek, hide underneath the covers and violently tremble in fear upon hearing them, because they're...well...they're big and scary.

It's a rather common word, that I'm sure most of us have heard at least a dozen times in our life.

Here goes. 1.2.3.

There. That wasn't so bad now was it?

Now I say "most of us have heard it" because I realized today that, apparently, people fall into either one of these 4 categories

1. Heard of the word and know the meaning.
2. Heard of the word but don't know the meaning.
3. Never heard of the word before.
4. Carrots.

So allow me to enlighten you on the magical word known as "queue".

Queue (as defined by the Merriam-Webster dictionary):

2 : a waiting line especially of persons or vehicles

And in case you folks were wondering what a queue looks like:

Queueing, in most countries is regarded as a sign of respect and courtesy and also reflects upon the person's upbringing in the unwritten laws of human ethics.To an extreme extent, by queueing in a foreign land, you're not only showcasing your own personal level of maturity, you're also acting as a mini-ambassador for your own respective nations, providing to the onlookers, a small glimpse of the level of "development" of your native homeland.

Note that, "jumping a queue", is not considered queuing. On the contrary, it has the exact opposite effect of queueing whereby an abundance of "evil eyes" and "snarling faces" and thoughts of "This guy's a douche bag!" will be provided on platters of dishes served cold.

Obviously, being the good and angelic people that you are, you wouldn't want that happening to you right?

Make this world a better place. Queue.

Bunkface - Escape Dance

I was bored today, decided to make a rhythm/lead guitar cover for Bunkface's song entitled Escape Dance.

I did around 3 takes each for the rhythm and lead parts, so near-perfection is out of the question here.

It took me about 2~3 hours of fiddling with Sony Vegas Pro before I finally figured out how to get the stupid split-screen thingy to work.

And another 5~6 hours to upload the friggin video, courtesy of Malaysia's "faster-than-a-speeding-snail" broadband speed.

At the end of the day, I think that I'm quite pleased with the results, if you guys don't mind me saying so.

I see ignorant people

One of the main reasons why I stopped watching the Brazil-Portugal game last night was because of the hopelessly ignorant commentator.

What exactly did he do?

He called Julio Cesar and Julio Baptista, Joo-lee-oh instead of Who-lee-oh.

He called Juan Joo-an instead of Who-an

= = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Now you might be thinking that I'm being extremely nit-picky about the subject, and I have to admit I am being nit-picky, but that does not change the fact that this seriously pissed me off.

Look, it might be acceptable for us regular folks at home watching the game to be oblivious to how you actually pronounce a person's name.

However, if:

1. You're getting paid to speak
2. Whatever you're saying is being broadcast live for the whole world to scrutinize

You'd better be doing your homework, and figure out how to pronounce each player on each teams' names to at least show some courtesy/respect and say his name right. Plus, it's not like Juan and Julio are some exotic names that only show up twice every decade. In fact, Juan ranks at #52 out of 1220 and Julio checks in at #247 for the most popular US baby names of 2009. [courtesy of thinkbabynames.com] Not too shabby.

Is that so freaking hard to do?

Damn. Absolutely ridiculous.

A feeling I feel when I feel like feeling the feeling I felt before

I had dinner tonight with my family +guests.

Menu: Spanish chicken w/side salad. Absoballylutely delicious.

According to my Umi, it's a pretty easy dish to prepare, so she thought of showing me how to make it earlier this evening. (nanti kat US boleh buat untuk kawan *wink wink*). But alas, I had other plans.

e.g.

watching Lagenda Budak Setan.
good news = it cost me 5 ringgits for the movie which is dirt-effin-cheap.
bad news = kecewa ngan movie. it was like a headless chicken driving a ferrari on a Malaysian highway; recipe for instant failure)

Later that evening: 10pm. Had a few drinks....of teh o' ais limau at Awwal Maju, while watching Spain vs. Switzerland. Great Atmosphere. Great Company. As for the match.....

Jamming

We jammed yesterday. By we, I mean our band, Black Forest Mocha. Friday nights at 12:00 midnight are our routine practice sessions. They usually go up to 2:30am. Then it's off to the common grounds to get some grub to fill some empty stomachs.

Oh yes, and every time we jam together, someone is always "anjing-ed". (If that's even a word. :P). By someone, I mean....... well, names aren't all that important anyways. I think if you know me, you can figure out who that person is ;)

Last night was no exception.

We had a good solid 2 hour jam session, ran through our setlist for an upcoming performance - senior farewell party. It was really after that jam session, that we had the most fun.

Coming up with new types of food:

3 shelled zaki omelette, extra cheese, extra Zaki

It's been a long time since my last post. Sometimes I feel bad for not updating this blog, because i've been doing so many exciting stuff that I would like to share with the rest of the world, but never got around to actually doing so, because of this disease that I suffer from, called "laziness".

Just a song that I was humming tonight. I just realized the beauty of this song and its lyrics in its simplicity. Somehow, The Beatles knew what to expect 40+ years ahead when they wrote this song, which is still extremely relevant in today's ever-changing world.

Reflection

Reflection,

Some people interpret this word as the thing they see when they look into a mirror.

Some people interpret this word as the person that everyone else looks at when they look at them.

Some people interpret this word as that gosh-darn gorgeous person staring back at them when they look into a mirror, while thinking "Wow, I hope people look at me in the exact same way."

Some people interpret this word as the only way to remind themselves of what has been done and how it affects other people.

Some people interpret this word as the moment when their ego and vanity is tossed aside and reality and humility checks in.

First Song (Song Title Still Undecided)

First big news of 2010 for the F.I.A.D. crew: we've finally completed 80% of our first song. There are still some parts of the song that could do with a little bit of modification, but overall, the parts for lead, rhythm, bass and drums are more or less finalized.

I would probably say that our first venture into song writing sounds something like a cross between Bunkface, Bullet for my Valentine (without the screamo), Dir En Grey/L'Arc-en-Ciel with a hint of Coldplay.

The next logical step would be: write lyrics, insert vocals and clean up on the song delivery. Since we want the lyrics to be catchy and yet MEANINGFUL, this part will likely take a considerable amount of time. (note: emphasis on the word Meaningful, because as of late, more and more bands are going with the whole "catchy beat and catchy rhythm ftw.... who the f*** cares about the lyrics anyways....." approach to creating a song, which to me, is a disgrace to the the art of song writing. If you're gonna write a song, don't do a half-a**ed job of it by writing sloppy, thoughtless lyrics...agreed?)

I will post the song up as soon as I am able to.

Au Revoir 2009, Hello 2010! (Cont'd)

Sorry for the delay between the first post and this one. I've been a bit busy with things I didn't initially want to be occupied with (i.e. work :S)

The plan was carried out almost to the dot; 9:25 at West, getting on the bus at 9:55, arriving at Downtown at 10:05pm. There we were, at downtown Nashville, 2 hours early for the New Year Celebration. It was then that I realized, if you don't drink alcohol or if you're not a clubbing person, then there is absolutely no point in arriving early.

To sum up what we did during the 2 hours of wait = walk > picture time > pose > walk > picture time > pose, rinse and repeat.

Oh yes, just in case I forget, the supposed "80 foot guitar" was more like..... 6 . Total Letdown... pfft... Way to go Nashville...

2 hours later...

10...9..8..7..6..5..4..3..2..1... HAPPY NEW YEAR!!



5 minutes later, the fireworks ended. To quote what one of the 18 mobsters said, "Ha? Tu je?"...

And so began the gruelling 1hr 15 min trek back to Vanderbilt.

Summary of New Year's Eve 2009/2010 at Nashville = "Belum cuba belum tahu, sekarang dah tahu, TAK DAPEK LA EDEN NAK PI TAHUN!"

It was a cold night...A very very cold night...In more ways than one.

Au Revoir 2009, Hello 2010!

31 December 2009, 4:30pm:

And so began the great downtown plan to usher in a new year.

The plan:

2125hrs - Meet up outside West House
2205hrs - Arrive downtown
2206-2350hrs - Explore the sights and smells of New Year's Eve at downtown Nashville
2359.50hrs - 10..9..8..7..6..5..4..3..2..1..............

Well that was the plan, but what actually happened will be described at greater length in my upcoming post. Stay tuned folks.
